UPDATE...Wednesday July 16th 2003

Hello everyone. Thanks for looking in,
Since the last update on the 30th of June, the following things have happened, the first of which was that it carried on raining for another couple of days!

Tuesday 1st July
We weren't going to let the rain or the previous problems dampen our spirits so we decided to go for a run up river.
Unfortunately the engine wouldn't start at first, but I eventually found that I had accidentally knocked the fuel tap into the off position when getting copious amounts of tools out over the weekend for the running repairs. Never mind, another lesson from Bernard in sorting things out.
We decided that the hatch in the wheelhouse floor is going to be a main part of the galley with regard to space and will need to be easier to lift and close.

Wednesday 2nd July
Decided to walk to Richard Stead's boat "Firefly" today to take some pictures of its progress.
Just about a mile along the towpath and we pass Joseph Barraclough Ltd.
Lots of memories here possibly to be told at a later date

Marooned in the rain on Richard's boat for a while "must be the monsoon season"

SPOT the WINE RACK

Friday 4th July
Sent invite out to workmates "thanks Gillian for printing this for us"

Sat & Sun,
Visit from "Big Brother" over the weekend, he's mad on boats and enjoyed his couple of days (forgot to take his picture)
Had Sunday lunch with Ken & Brenda MacLeod at Heath Cottage "Great Afternoon"

Monday 7th July
Went over to Blackpool in the afternoon and had dinner with my sister June.

JUNE at the "Balmoral Hotel" Blackpool

Tuesday 8th July
Still having steering problems but every one is a learning curve which we need anyway.

Wednesday 9th July
Better day today. Found that the Co-op is selling lager @ 62.5 p for 440 ml (bargain)
Hope I can get it drunk before "Ric" turns up.

The cat "Gromit" has settled down quite nicely although we think he has been under some stress at times. Some days he seems fine and others seem to bother him, but, as you can see he likes to check the bilges for water on a regular basis.

BILGES SEEM DRY

Checking his escape route seems to be another preoccupation with "Gromit"

NEED TO LOSE SOME WEIGHT

And when he isn't doing that he risks a short nap.

CATS and CHILDREN FIRST

Thursday 10th July
Floor covering fitted today and looks fine.
This picture was taken just after the floor covering had been fitted and we are going to fit a couple of gas struts to it, like the ones that are on the back hatch of a hatchback, if you know what I mean.

HATCH in the Galley

Friday 11th July
Started working on the back rail of the boat this afternoon but can't finish it before the weekend.

Saturday 12th July
Moored over on the other side of the weir, in the canal in readiness for visitors.
Makes a nice change having people passing to say hello to.

MOORED in the Canal

Sunday 13th of July
After Lunch we went to Blackpool to David's cousin Susan's BBQ. Another good afternoon and very hot too! Good to see everyone again.

Monday 14th July
Went to Blackpool to pick up David's Sister June and bring her back to Mirfield to see the boat. Had a great day with June and cousin Wyn up the river and canal all afternoon.

TIGHT FIT COMING FROM SHEPLEY BRIDGE

Tuesday 15th of July
Now you may not want to know this but we went to Shepley Bridge to have our toilet pumped out. Once this was attended to, we set off to Brighouse on our maiden voyage (the first including going through locks).

MAIDEN LOCK "Battyeford"

Very hot day and supposed to be the hottest so far this year.
We tried to go past Brighouse but found the first lock past Brighouse wasn't opening properly so we turned around and moored at the back of Sainsburys in the middle of town.

The next update will be in August
All the best,
David and Pamela
